Little Feet, Big Moments: The Joy of Kids at Weddings

Weddings are about love, connection, and the joining of lives, and that includes the little ones who can bring so much energy and authenticity to the day. Whether it's a flower girl sneaking extra petals from her basket, a ring bearer proudly clenching his nervous fists, or cousins playing chasy during cocktail hour, kids have a way of making weddings feel even more alive.

Youngsters are often removed from the wedding experience, but the amount of joy and spontaneity they bring can be nothing short of magical. That cheeky laugh that breaks a quiet tension, the emotional moment a child sees Mum or Dad “all dressed up” for the first time, or the pride in the eyes of a nervous ring bearer holding tight the precious cargo in their tiny hands, these are the real, unscripted moments that enrich the story of the day. Children play perfectly into the candid and documentary nature of my approach to wedding photography.

As a photographer, I don’t just expect children to be part of the celebration, I welcome them. I’ve photographed countless weddings where children played an integral role, whether as part of the ceremony, on the dance floor, or simply being themselves in the quiet in-between moments. I approach these scenes with a calm, patient presence and an eye for capturing them naturally, without forcing anything.

For couples planning a wedding with their own children in tow, or nieces, nephews, or the kids of close friends, I want you to know that I’m fully prepared to document the chaos and charm that comes with them. I understand that a wedding isn’t a perfectly posed day; it’s a living, breathing celebration, with children bring a spontaneity that makes it even more beautiful.

The photos below are a few of my favorite examples of just how joyful, hilarious, and moving it can be to have children as part of the wedding story. Whether they’re armed with bubble guns, standing proudly centre stage or shyly clinging to Mum or Dad, these are the kinds of moments that deserve to be remembered just as much as the vows and the first dance.

So if you're planning a wedding that includes little people with big personalities, know that I’m the kind of photographer who will laugh with them, crouch down to their level, and catch the candid magic as it unfolds. Your family is welcome here.
